CONTEST DESCRIPTION
The ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ contest will ask contestants to share (submit entries on) how they have, or plan to have a 'Christmas Well Shared'. We want to find out how contestants celebrate the true spirit of Christmas with their family. How they give back to their community, how parents try to teach their kids that it’s better to give than to receive, and to look beyond all the gifts and food. For example serving at a homeless shelter or at local charity, giving Christmas gifts to kids in foster care, etc.
The Spirit of Christmas Contest.
How do you celebrate the true spirit of the season? Is your story inspiring? Share it with us and you could win $1,000 for your self and $1,000 for the charity of your choice.
Christmas can be a busy time of the year, and it’s easy to get caught up with all the shopping, decorating, cooking and baking. We want to know about the different ways you and your family celebrate the true spirit of the season. At the core of ‘life well shared’ is putting others first and giving back to the community. Many families across the country make time and give resources to help others less fortunate locally and globally at this time of year. Share your story and pictures with us, and you could win $1,000 for the charity of your choice.
Selected entries will be published on this website and may be selected for publication by http://www.RD.com and possibly in the Reader’s Digest magazine.
SAMPLE ENTRY
This Christmas my husband and I have decided to ask our neighbors not to buy our kids any presents. We have talked it through with the girls and explained that there are kids all over the world who don’t get anything for Christmas. Instead we have asked either for a small donation or gifts that we can pack into a shoebox to send overseas as part of the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas shoebox program.
The girls are really excited to box and wrap these gifts for other kids and have had fun participating in buying ‘box fillers’ and wrapping and decorating the boxes. It’s been a great experience for our family and we are hoping to involve other families on our street next year.
